The highlight of this past week’s events has to be the creation of strange statue. A statue that was meant to resemble one of football’s most iconic players of the modern era.

Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, formerly known as Madeira airport was christened with a statue of Ronaldo himself. It is fair to say it looks nothing like Real Madrid’s number seven. The Portugeuse winger appeared pleased with the result of this statue, but we all know what he was actually thinking.
Going along with the theme of International football, the European Region World Cup qualifiers continued over the weekend as Sweden defeated Belarus four nil in Stockholm, France grabbed a 3-1 away win in Luxembourg and Belgium drew 1-1 with Greece.
Roberto Martinez has to be less than pleased with his talented side drawing against the lack-luster Greeks at home. Mitroglou grabbed the opening goal for Greece in the 46th minute. Then the Greeks had Tachtsidis sent off for two yellow cards. Lukaku rescued a point for the Belgians in the 89th minute and Tzavellas picked up a second yellow in stoppage time to reduce the Greeks to nine men.
That wraps up this week’s update. Make sure to check back next week for the next edition of the weekly blog.
