Weekly Blog (February 27-March 5)
To kick off this weeks blog, Donald Trump has made the headlines again. The President of the United States has criticized his predecessor yet again and even went to the length of accusing Barack Obama of
wire-tapping him. Obama's spokesperson lashed back at the President's accusation by saying the claims were false. Trump's criticism of Obama doesn't look like it will end anytime soon as the President will likely respond again.
Disney's remake of Beauty and the Beast, featuring British actress Emma Stone, has been facing recent criticism as the film is set to have a scene where two actors will kiss. The news of this scene in the film has upset many people. However, this is a breakthrough in Disney films and could lead to a more open and tolerant view of the LGBT community from outsiders. The fact that many people have criticized this film as "wrong" and "not suitable for children" are the same people who create a negative stigma around the LGBT community and without tolerance, there can be no positive change in our world.
In sports, Liverpool routed Arsenal at Anfield by a scoreline of 3-1. The Gunners were simply played off the pitch by the Reds on Saturday night. Roberto Firmino opened the scoring for Liverpool in the ninth minute and Sadio Mane scored 5 minutes before the break to make it two. Arsenal cut the deficit in the 57th minute when Danny Welbeck scored with a wonderful lofted finish over the keeper. Liverpool put the game to bed when Georginio Wijnaldum scored a third for Liverpool and secured the three points for the team from Merseyside.
